Pernell Gerver's lecture and presentation entitled "Fruits & Berries for the Home Garden" shows how to have success when growing fruits and berries. The program highlights the many fruits suitable for the home garden such as stone fruits, tree fruits, soft fruits, berries, and brambles. Peaches, cherries, and plums, along with apples, pears, strawberries, blueberries, currants, gooseberries, grapes, raspberries, and blackberries are featured in the program. Each fruit is illustrated and described in detail along with its use in the home garden. Cultural instructions and proper growing conditions are discussed for each fruit or berry. Tips are provided on how to plant, prune, and harvest for maximum flavor. Espalier, a method of training trees to grow flat and in a pattern, is included. No matter what size the garden, the program shows you how to grow delectable fruits and berries in the home garden. Included is a question & answer session after the program as well as a plant sale of rare, hard-to-find, and useful plants and gardening products.
