Horticulture and gardening have been lifelong
interests of Pernell Gerver. Since the age of six, Gerver has
been self educated in all aspects of horticulture by practical
"hands-on" experience, reading and researching in gardening
books and magazines, and trial-and-error experimentation.
Gerver was named Gardener of
the Year by Organic
Gardening magazine when he was just 18
years old. Gerver and his award-winning garden were profiled in
the magazine's cover story.
Gerver is founder and president of Horticultural
Communication Services. His company specializes in all aspects of
media communications nationally, including garden writing,
publishing, lecturing, photography, consulting, and television &
radio broadcasting.
In western Massachusetts, Gerver is garden columnist
for the Springfield Newspapers. His weekly gardening column,
gardening Q & A column, and gardening feature appear in the Sunday
Republican newspaper.
Gerver is a judge for the New England Spring Flower
Show in Boston sponsored by the Massachusetts Horticultural Society.
In that capacity he judges exhibits and awards medals.
Gerver is the coordinator and host of his own
exclusive, year 'round Gardening Workshop Series held in three
locations nearly weekly throughout western Massachusetts and

Gerver is host of television gardening segments on the
western Mass. NBC affiliate, WWLP-TV22.
Gerver works on garden books and magazines and
lectures extensively throughout the country. He often appears on TV
and radio programs.
Gerver is an active member of the Garden Writers
Association of America.
