The heart-shaped leaves are olive green with creamy edges.  New leaves emerge with rosy-pink edges that mature to creamy white. The undersides of the leaves are deep purple. The stems grow from a hard, gray, woody tuber that sits on the surface of the potting soil. The tuber can grow to a couple of inches across.
